How to: Provide your linen with proper aftercare

The longevity of things depends not only on their quality, but also on how well they are maintained. And when we make a great home decor purchase, we always hope for it to last as long as possible. Therefore, it is essential to know the right aftercare tips and tricks for the linen that you style on your bed.

A key point to always keep in mind is how different bedding accessories may have different aftercare requirements. This can be due to the difference in either their making, fabric, colour and several other factors. A bed sheet is a very different product than a comforter, which is known to have filling unlike the former. This is where our first and the most important tip comes into play.

1.Follow instructions

Products always come with labels or tags that clearly state how they should be washed or dried. Following these instructions is the first and the most easy step towards providing your linen pieces with appropriate aftercare. It simplifies the work for you so you can enjoy the advantages of your beautiful bedding with minimal efforts.

2.Detergent

What kind of detergent you decide to use to wash your can also make a significant difference to your linen. Usually, it is recommended that you use gentle ones instead of something that’s harsh. This is because the latter can cause damage to your bedding if it consists of harmful chemicals.

On the other hand, a gentle detergent will enable you to preserve the original quality of the fabric and even its colours in the long run. It is sometimes also good to be mindful of how much of the detergent is being used per load, as too much of it can also potentially harm the fibres.

3.Laundry loads

Another important tip is to limit the number of pieces you put to wash at a time, depending on their size or volume. Too many of them, if big pieces, can cause substantial hindrance or damage, once inside the washing machine. Additionally, just to be safe, it is better to not mix together a bedding load with a clothing load that has metal or other detailing.

4.Drying process

Certain bedding products have very specific drying requirements too, which are ideally mentioned in their aftercare or washing instructions. Durability and looks can be impacted if a piece of linen is hand-squished too much or over-dried in a tumble-dryer. Furthermore, take the time to find out the specifications that your machine offers for drying purposes and only go ahead with the same if it allows you to opt for what’s best for you linen pieces.

Once you have these key factors in place, you are good to go. Your bedding accessories will remain in good condition and have a longer lifetime with the right kind of maintenance. So make a note of everything we mentioned and keep shopping home decor free of all stress!
